What to Do When Having a Panic Attack

There are a lot of people who are dealing with anxiety, and when things start to really get tough, panic attacks can set in leading to serious conditions for some, stifling their movement forward at school, work, and in public.

(Go here for difference between anxiety and panic attacks.)

Talking about getting rid of these issues can be all too simple…but in action? Now that’s where things can seem to get difficult to manage.

Nevertheless, that shouldn’t stop you from trying, which is why the following elements below are going to help on how to stop a panic attack when it occurs.

Try these three steps, and see how it can help you gain the upper hand. (Disclaimer: if it’s severe, always seek emergency help immediately.)

Step 1: Go Somewhere Quiet and Start Talking Back

One of the fastest ways that you can take control of your emotional state is to find a quiet place and start talking back to the “string of thoughts” that are coming through your mind. As panic sets in, start to literally talk to yourself and calm yourself down.

You can stranglehold your attacks by simply fighting the notion and speaking positivity to yourself. Positive language, notes that speak of optimism will help you calm down.

Just do this, keep fighting it, and you’ll triumph.

Step 2: Control Your Breathing

Fight your breathing, and get it under control. Close your eyes and take a deep breath, and then let it go slowly.

It’s hard to control the rush of blood that is going to hit you, and as panic comes through, you’re going to want to hyperventilate. Don’t let that happen. You are in control, and you can manifest deliberate changes to your breathing.

Start with holding your breath, then slowly let it out and back in. If you can’t seem to get a handle on it at first, keep trying. Holding your breath will cause the notion of hyperventilation to drop out, and give you a semblance of control.

Seriously, you can take on panic attacks with relative ease if you just do this.

Step 3: Get A Note Card and Prepare To Use It

Here’s an absolutely great trick to help you. Most people know whether or not they have anxiety, and they know that panic attacks set in. Well, be prepared for that manifestation.

Prepare by getting a note card and writing down some positive affirmations. Give yourself instructions. Something simple like, “Don’t panic. Breathe deeply. Hold your breath. Let it out. Calmly continue acting normal,” and these will help you rise up to the challenges that are coming at you.

A simple note card is non-descript. No one is going to know what you’re doing, no one is going to be the wiser if you pull out a note card that is affirmations to help you overcome this issue.

These steps are crucial to harnessing the wild bull that comes out to knock you down. You don’t have to fear these things.

Test them out. Prepare ahead of time, and literally get ready to fix these things. You’re going to find that you can triumph over issues if you are deliberate in your steps.
